Behind The Scenes - Shopping For Bridal 2018 At The National Bridal Market Chicago

Have you ever wondered what bridal store owners do when they travel "off to market"? What is Bridal Market? How often do we go to market?

Today, I thought it would be fun to show off a recap of our trip to the National Bridal Market Chicago in September 2017! This was the market where the majority of bridal stores are previewing and ordering Spring 2018 collections from designers all over the world.  These are the gowns and dresses that we begin to receive in January thru May, depending on the designer.

Each Market is a little different, each season is different.  With the next round of markets coming around the corner, beginning this August 2018 thru October 2018, we're going to be more vigilant about documenting our experiences so that we can share them with our brides and fans, who ask us every season what we do and what's coming new to Epiphany!

Chicago is also my original hometown. I was born and raised here.  When I graduated from college and began my design career, I had my first showroom right here at the Apparel Center next to the Merchandise Mart.  It was an exciting time and the energy level at the mart is exhilarating.

I look forward to going back each season looking to bring new gowns and collections to our California boutique, Epiphany.

Bridal markets are held twice a year.  In the spring (March and April), we head off to view the Fall collections. In September/October, we go to view the Spring collections.  This is the season we were shopping for in the pictures below.

We'll be heading off to market in only a few short weeks! Stay tuned for more of these updates.  They are so fun to put together!

The Merchandise Mart located in downtown Chicago, Illinois. When it was opened in 1930, it was the largest building in the world, with 4,000,000 square feet of floor space. The art deco structure is located at the junction of the Chicago River's branches.

The Merchandise Mart is so large that it had its own ZIP code (60654) until 2008, when the Postal Service assigned it to part of the surrounding area. In 2010, the building opened its Design Center showrooms to the public for the first time.

When we go to market, not only do we visit our designers that we've been working with for years, but we're always on the lookout for new collections. Above is a new collection to us, Lotus Threads. We brought them into the store only a few short months before this market and couldn't wait to see what was new. These are dresses that are so perfect for not only your wedding, but also a second reception dress, evening events or any special formal occasion.

This was the number one dress that we featured on our Instagram stories during market! So many brides and our wedding vendor friends gave a huge thumbs up to it!

Badgley Mischka - need we say more? Love, love this collection!

We are bringing in more accessories and jewelry to Epiphany than ever before!

Not only are the collections beautiful, but the models are the sweetest ladies. Always up for a photo!

Simple, yet formal enough for your wedding.

If you haven't been to Epiphany in a while, you are in for a treat! We expanded our flowergirl and communion dress section! Many sizes, styles and colors, that are available right off the rack.

Love how these adorable flowergirll dresses are right on point with our bridal gown collections. Brides - you can have the flowergirl be a "mini-bride"!

Our mothers of the wedding have told us many times that Epiphany's moms collections have more to choose from than bigger stores in the Bay Area. We agree and we're always striving to bring in exactly what our mothers are looking for.

We have to say, this company knows how to keep us store buyers in their showroom! Food and drinks. Because shopping really is a lot of work!

A sampling of moms, flower girls and bridesmaids. We cover a lot of ground.

Have you heard of GirlyGo Garters? You can fit a purse full of essentials into a garter - stay hands free and keep your valuables safe on a night out. This is a perfect gift for you bridesmaid party!

Where we stayed during market. Loved being right downtown only a few blocks from the Merchandise Mart.

Although the calendar said September, the weather said HOT summer! It was close to 90 degrees most of the week and the flowers and landscape was loving it.

Visiting family while in Chicago. I was able to extend my stay by a week and hang out with my mom and brother! Another reason why Chicago market is one of my favs!

Sunday brunch. If you've ever been to Chicago, you know that is a foodie town. So many local favorite places as well as fine dining.

Spent some time powerwalking along the Chicago River. So beautiful.

Navy Pier

Korean BBQ at The Lemont House. Only a few blocks from home.

Buckingham Fountain and a beautiful walk along Lake Michigan

Hibiscus is a tropical flower. Chicago in the summer feels like the tropics!

Next time, we plan to take many more pictures! If there is anything you'd like to see from our behind the scenes at market, let us know and we'll pull it together!
